POPULATION IN INDIA

India has the world's second largest population,estimated at 1.15 billion in 2008,and is tipped to exceed China as the planet's most populous nation by 2030.According to the Government of India'urban poverty report 2009,40%to 50%of India's total population is likely to be urban based by 2030.
            A population census is held every 10 years in India.The most recent was in 2001 and this revealed that India's most population had risen by 21.34% in the previous decade.According to this census, Mumbai is India's most populated city,with 16.4 million,Kolkata ranks second with 13.2 million,Delhi with 12.8 million on third and Chennai with 6.6 million on forth.
                             Despite India's many urban centres,the 2001 census revealed that the nation is still overwhelmingly rural,with an estimated 75% population living in the countryside.
